Posting from the APG vNext Home Page Widget

APG vNext's home page can display a What's Going On or recent activity widget that shows the latest forum posts directly on the landing page. Understanding how this widget works, how to configure it, and how posting from this area interacts with the full forum post submission system helps administrators provide members with a seamless quick-access posting experience from the forum home page.

The What's Going On List

The What's Going On list on the APG vNext home page shows recently active threads with the latest post snippet and author for each. This gives returning members an immediate visual summary of new activity without needing to browse the forum sections manually. The list is configurable in terms of how many threads to show, which forum sections to include, and whether to show only threads from sections the viewing user has permission to access.

Quick Reply from the Home Page

When the Quick Reply feature is enabled, members can reply to threads directly from the home page activity list by clicking the Reply button associated with each listed thread. This opens an inline reply form without navigating away from the home page. The submitted reply goes through the same validation, approval, and notification pipeline as a reply submitted from the full thread view, ensuring that quick replies are subject to all the same rules including post approval requirements, character limits, and spam filtering.

Configuring the Activity Widget

Navigate to Admin > Home Page Settings to configure the What's Going On list. Options include the number of threads to display, the sort order (most recently active vs. most recently created), which forum sections to include in the feed, the maximum age of threads to show (for example, only threads with activity in the last 30 days), and whether the list should update dynamically via AJAX as new posts are made or only refresh on full page reload. Configuring this widget well makes the forum home page feel active and engaging for both new visitors and returning members.
