Diagnosing Duplicate and Missing Posts in APG vNext
Two related post-visibility issues can affect APG vNext forums: duplicate posts where the same content appears multiple times in a thread, and missing posts where submitted content does not appear even though submission appeared to succeed. Both undermine member trust and should be investigated and resolved promptly to maintain confidence in the forum platform's reliability.
Causes of Duplicate Posts
Duplicate posts are almost always caused by double-submission of the post form. Users click Submit multiple times because the page responds slowly, use the browser back button and resubmit, or retry after a network timeout without knowing the first submission succeeded. APG vNext includes duplicate submission detection using a session-based post token that expires after the first successful submission. Verify this feature is enabled in Admin > Post Settings. Adding a client-side button disable-on-submit provides additional front-end protection during slow server response periods.
Causes of Missing Posts
Missing posts most commonly occur when post approval mode is enabled for the user's group, holding posts in a moderation queue rather than publishing them immediately. Check Admin > Forums > Edit Forum > Post Approval to see if new posts require approval. Other causes include a database write failure that did not surface an error to the user, a cached thread view showing stale content without the new post, and the post being automatically hidden by spam filtering. Check the moderation queue, the database post table, and the spam filter logs when a user reports that their post is not appearing in the expected thread location.
